Can I customize or remove the theme BuildMyPOD installs?

Yes, the theme added by BuildMyPOD is fully customizable.

It’s meant to give your store a quick starting point, but you’re free to change or remove it at any time.

Customizing the theme

To edit the theme, go to Online Store >>>> Themes and click on "Edit theme" to open the editor.

The Shopify theme editor works on a "what you see is what you edit" principle. When you're in the theme editor, you can click directly on any element in the preview (a button, an image, a text block) and the settings panel on the left will jump to that element's options. No hunting through menus required.

Three layers of customization:

Theme settings (the gear icon at the bottom of the left panel) — these are store-wide defaults like your brand colors, typography, button styles, and logo. Changes here affect the whole theme globally.

Sections — each page is built from sections (slideshow, featured collection, rich text, etc.). Click a section in the preview or in the left panel to edit its specific content and layout options.

  • Blocks — sections contain blocks, which are the smaller pieces inside them (individual slides, buttons, text elements). Clicking a block drills down to its specific settings, like a button's label, link, or color override.

The theme editor isn't just for editing what's already there; you can also build out pages by adding new sections and blocks.

  • Adding a section — At the bottom of the left panel on any page, there's an "Add section" button. Clicking it opens a library of available section types (image banners, testimonials, collapsible FAQs, etc.) that you can insert and reorder freely by dragging.
  • Adding a block — When you're inside a section's settings, you'll see an "Add block" button at the bottom of that section's panel. This lets you insert new elements within that section. Like adding an extra slide to a slideshow, a new button to a hero banner, or an additional text column.
  • Reordering — Both sections and blocks can be dragged up and down to reorder them without any coding.

To remove the theme:

  1. In the Theme library, click on the three dots
  2. Click Remove
  3. Now you can select a new theme for your store

If you'd like to get a new BuildMyPOD theme, you have two options:

  • Wait till a new version of the theme is uploaded to your store
  • Go through the workflow again to get a fresh version of the theme. If you're using the same store, our team will have to reset the workflow for you
