How to add color swatches to your products
If you're on BuildMyPOD version 2.0
Color swatches are added automatically — you don't need to install any app, and you don't need to connect the color metafields manually.
When you create a product through Printify, the color variants you select already come with names (like "Black," "Navy," "Heather Grey"). The theme reads those names and automatically shows the matching color swatch — no setup needed on your end.
Using Printful instead of Printify? Swatches will work automatically as long as the color names match the ones from Printify. If a color doesn't show up, you can add it manually.
If your swatches aren't showing, check this in your theme editor:
Go to your theme editor, click on Theme Settings, and open the BMP: Swatches section
Make sure the toggle for "Enable name-based color swatches" is turned on. This is on by default, so it should already be enabled — but it's worth double-checking if swatches aren't appearing.
- If a specific color still looks wrong (for example, showing the wrong shade), you can fix it manually:
- Find the "Color overrides" box.
- Add the color name and the correct color code, like this:
White:#F4F4F4 - Each color goes on its own line.
- You don't need to touch this at all if your colors already look correct.
If you're on BuildMyPOD version 1.1.4 or 1.1.5
You'll still need to manually connect your colors so the swatches show up on the product page. Here's how:
If you’re using a theme version earlier than 1.1.4, please reach out to our support team. We’ll be happy to assist you with enabling the color swatches and ensuring everything is set up correctly.
- Open a product in Shopify. You must select the Category as Clothing to be able to connect the metaobjects.
- On the Variants section, expand the Color field.
- And click on Connect Metafield to create the color swatches.
- The BuildMyPOD colors will automatically populate the blocks.
The colors that are automatically listed are the ones set up in the mockup in Printify. You need to make sure the colors mapped in Shopify exactly match the colors that were selected in Printify.
- Don't forget to save the changes in Shopify.
- You'll be able to see the color swatches in your product now:
You will need to follow this process for every existing and new product in your store.
