- Don't forget to save your changes!
To change your banner:
- In the same theme editor, navigate to your homepage, hover your mouse over the banner you wish to edit, and click on "Slide."
- The Slide settings will open on the left. Look for the Image setting and click "Change".
- Upload your new banner or choose from your files.
- Adjust positioning and other settings as needed. You can play with the layout and appearance settings to improve your banner.
- If you want to edit the second banner, click on the pagination (the dots at the bottom of the banner) to switch to the second banner page, then open the "Slide" settings.
- You'll find more banner settings in the Slideshow section. The changes you make here will apply to all the slides (banners) you have.
- If your banner is not adjusting properly or it's getting cropped, you can try changing the width and height.
- You can add as many slides/banners as you need! To do this, open the homepage, and on the left menu, you'll see all the templates and sections automatically. Expand the Slideshow section, and click on "Add block".
- It will automatically give you a Slide option for a block. Just click on it.
- Don't forget to save all the changes!
Good clarification — that reframes it as a real trade-off rather than Hero Banner just having fewer features. Here's the revised section:
Slideshow vs. Hero Banner: which one should I use?
BuildMyPOD sets up your store with a Slideshow banner by default — this is the banner type covered in the steps above. Shopify themes also offer a Hero Banner section, and some store owners prefer it.
The right choice depends on what matters more to you: separate mobile/desktop images, or a fully clickable banner.
Slideshow (default)
- Lets you upload a separate image for desktop and mobile — so each device gets an image sized and cropped exactly right, instead of one image trying to work for both
- Supports multiple rotating slides, each with its own image, text, and button
- Best if you want to promote more than one thing, or want full control over how the banner looks on mobile vs. desktop
Hero Banner
- The entire banner is clickable as one link — no button needed, which gives a cleaner look for a single promotion
- Only one image, and it has to work for both desktop and mobile — no separate mobile image field, so you're relying on focal point and cropping to make it look right on both
- Only supports one image — no rotating between multiple promotions
If you want a clickable banner but prefer to stay on Slideshow, add a Button block to the slide and link it to your desired page. It won't make the whole banner clickable, but it gives you a working CTA without giving up the desktop/mobile image split.
