Why are my products showing as out of stock/sold out?
This is a common issue caused by your Shopify/Printify shipping settings. To resolve this issue, you need to transfer your products to the general shipping profile and make sure the fulfillment is properly set up.
This is what you need to do to fix it:
- Inside Shopify, open the Settings, then click on the Shipping and Delivery option.
- Check if you have any Printify shipping profiles listed. If you do, you will need to delete them.
If your products are assigned to the Printify shipping profile, Printify will control the shipping rates, which are often set much higher (around $12), leading to lower conversion rates as customers may abandon their carts due to high shipping fees.
Assigning all products to the General shipping profile ensures you control shipping rates and helps avoid issues like products showing as out of stock or sold out.
- Open the Printify shipping profile.
- Then click on Actions >>> Delete profile.
When you delete the extra shipping profiles, all the products are automatically moved to the General Profile.
Printify automatically creates a new shipping profile whenever you publish a product. To keep things organized, you’ll need to periodically delete the extra profiles and move them back under the general profile.
- Go back to the Shipping and Delivery main page and open the General profile.
- You need to make sure Printify is listed as the fulfillment option. If you see a section called "Not fulfilling from", click on "Start shipping" for Printify.
- Once you do, you will need to set up your Shipping zone if you haven't already. We recommend starting with the US, and you can expand later if needed.
- If you don't already have your shipping rates set up, you can add them on "Add shipping option".
For your shipping rates, we recommend the following structure in your General shipping profile:
Add a shipping rate based on order amount named "Standard" and set free shipping by updating the minimum price threshold for free shipping to $74.99.
Add a flat rate of $4.89 (anywhere between $4.75 and $5.00 is acceptable).
- After confirming the settings, save the changes.
You have properly set up your shipping settings in Shopify!
However, every time you add a new product to Printify, you also need to make sure you assign it to the general shopping profile.
This is what you need to do:
- Navigate to Printify, go to "My Products", and click on a product.
- Scroll down to "Assign shipping profile". Here, you need to select "General Profile".
- Scroll down again and in the "Variant visibility" section, ensure that all variants of the product are marked as available for purchase.
- Then, in the "Sync product details" section, tick the shipping profile option.
You can choose which product details you’d like to sync with Shopify, such as titles, descriptions, and mockups. The only required field is the shipping profile, which must be selected to complete the setup.
- Don't forget to publish the product to save the changes.
Important!!!
If you're selling exclusively to one country (for example, the US) and have set up your Shopify Markets and shipping zones accordingly, products can appear as "Sold Out" — or show a disabled Add to Cart button — for visitors located outside your shipping zones, even if you have full inventory.
This applies to store owners too: if you're located outside the countries you sell to (for example, you're based in Canada but only sell to the US), you may see the same "Sold Out" label when browsing your own store. This happens because Shopify uses the same "Sold Out" messaging as a stand-in for "we can't ship to your location."
